My mom has asked that I stop playing for fear of harming the computer. Will playing the game hurt my computer in any way? For ex. my graphics card?

Um, no? It's not going to burn out your graphics card or anything.

Unless your computer is already damaged, playing games (especially ones that aren't very graphics intensive like Guild Wars) will not harm your computer.

It's possible. If your computer is relatively underpowered, or you are trying to play with the graphics set too high, you could overheat the graphics unit. At first, this would just cause some graphics glitches or lockups, but if you continue to constantly overheat things, it could lead to permanent damage. (Sorry

It would help if we knew the specs on the computer - particularly what sort of graphics it has. But, as a general rule, if you:
- use the "Auto detect" button in the graphics options (in-game, Menu>Options>Graphics)
- set "Wait for vertical sync" to on (Check mark in the box, in the Graphics options)
- set Anti-Aliasing to OFF or x2 (if Auto Detect doesn't)
- set the game resolution to the same (or less) than the monitor's native resolution (or Windows desktop res)

.....than you shouldn't have any worries about overheating. It may not look as nice as it might if you tweak the settings, but it will work.

Beyond the possible graphics heat issue, there would be no worries about "damage" to the computer. And, you won't get viruses, trojans, etc. from playing GW.

P.s - whether you play Guild Wars or not, it's a good thing to open up the computer now and then to blow the dust bunnies out and make sure all cooling fans are running. You wouldn't want it to overheat because of dust bunnies and have your mother blame it on GW.

No. It's not going to mess your computer up. If you have a card that is meant to handle games, then why fear?

Of course, I've seen situations where a GPU will fry, but that is mostly because it was either defective, or overclocked /w fan failure at the same time.

the simple answer:No it wont harm your comp.

the slightly longer answer im willing to type: it could only hurt your computer if you have a crappy graphics card. i mean like.. where a game like pitfall( yes pitfall its ancinet i know) would be hard on it.. Other then that it should be fine.

Guild wars wont harm your computer unless its a very old laptop and you cover the ventilation on purpose which will make your PC shutdown?
as long as you ahve an anti virus ,since you'll be connected to the internet, you'll be fine. i don't really know about the virus stuff though you mgiht be fine without it ^^?

and to be honest... I wouldn't risk if it have a Intel ingreated chipset... any nvidia or ati can handle guildwars without problems

intel ingrated chipset works fine as long as you have the most updated driver for it

GW is not going to hurt your computer --- heat might, but if GW is making your computer overheat it's only because you have a different problem already or it's full of dust inside it --- either way it's not going to be GW fault at all.
